1-octyl alcohol  is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C8H18O and a molecular weight of 130.22800 [1]. It is a colorless and transparent oil-like liquid, miscible with ethanol, ether and chloroform, insoluble in water and flammable. Strong smell of grease and citrus. It is a saturated fatty alcohol and a T-channel inhibitor with an IC50 of 4 μM on natural T-current. It is an attractive biofuel with diesel-like properties. It can also be used as an additive for oil-based fracturing fluids. It is also used in the production of plasticizers, extractants, stabilizers, and intermediates for solvents and fragrances. Octanol itself is also used as a spice, blending rose, lily and other floral fragrances, as a soap spice.
