The Prior Lake Rotary Club recently donated funds to the Prior Lake Fire Department to help purchase medical supply bags that will be used for medical calls.

“It was a generous donation that allowed us to purchase new medical bags for several of our response apparatus and to upgrade our medical response bags,” Fire Captain Daryl Jelle said. “They’re going to help better protect our responders and streamline our interventions with patient contact. It was greatly appreciated.”

Jelle said the donation was to purchase just the bags itself, and not the medical supplies. He also said the fire department will order enough bags to go on all of the main responding units, which includes the first out engines, reserve engines and all three of the chief squads will also be receiving the new medical bags.

“We already currently have all of our life-saving entities,” Jelle said. “The bags helps to house all of the medical interventions and medical support supplies that we need to perform the duties that we need to be able to do on scene, whether that be a traffic incident or in an apartment complex in a living room, it just houses everything that we need to be able to do everything efficiently in one location.”

Jelle added that the new medical bags are a big deal because they are more spacious and have more compartments for storage.

The bags are lined with foam to protect the medical supplies inside the bag and the exterior of the bag is wrapped in a reflective and more protective outer shell that creates better visibility at night and better protection from blood flow passages and other bodily fluids soaking into the material, Jelle said. “That upgrade is a huge advantage for the responders themselves and the patients on scene. The bags are simply bigger and have a more better organized storage system for everything.”
