Leading wine closure manufacturer Amcor Capsules has announced that it has reduced the carbon footprint of the production of its Stelvin aluminium screw cap range by up to 35%.
The dramatic cut in carbon emissions has been made possible thanks to the introduction of up to 46% recycled aluminium in the production of Stelvin screw caps, and also through the selection of low-carbon primary aluminium which has been certified and independently verified. The reduction applies to all Stelvin and 30H60 screw caps produced in Europe, North America and South America for wine and spirits brands. Oxygen Scavenging Crown Caps

There is also a plastic free screw cap, called Stelvin Inside, that comes without a PVDC4 liner.
This greener version of the Stelvin screw cap is immediately available to customers worldwide and is part of Amcor Capsule’s Transparence programme, which was launched this July to continually improve the environmental sustainability of the drinks sector.
The company has also committed to SBTi (Science Based Targets), meaning that it is aiming to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
Yannick Magnon, general manager of Amcor Capsules, said: “We were the market pioneers in 1964 with the launch of the first screw cap for wine. Since then, STELVIN® has been recognised and praised by winemakers worldwide as setting the standard for quality and as one of the most sustainable capping solutions in the industry. We always aim for the best for our customers, and we wanted to go further to help them achieve their own sustainability goals.”
