A new bar is set to bring an authentic taste of Ireland to Austin this spring.

The Dead Rabbit, an award-winning New York City pub, will open its second location in the country at 204 E. Sixth St. The pub boasts a menu of cocktails like Irish coffee and hearty meals like bangers and mash. It also was named world's best bar in 2016 by the (aptly named) World's 50 Best Bars. Other awards include world's best cocktail bar in 2015 from the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation and best bar in North America from 2013 to 2016, also awarded by World's 50 Best Bars. The Dead Rabbit touts itself as "the most awarded pub in the world," according to its website.

In anticipation of its spring opening — and in celebration of National Irish Coffee Day — The Dead Rabbit will host a pop-up event on Jan. 25 at Nickel City on East 11th Street. The event will feature Irish coffee alongside other cocktails from 7 to 10 p.m., with $2 of every cocktail going to Heard Austin, an organization focused on mental health in the food and beverage industry.

The Dead Rabbit opened in 2013 in Manhattan after managing partner and Ireland native Jack McGarry co-founded a popular bar in Belfast. Outfitted with a taproom, parlor and what it calls the "Occasional Room," The Dead Rabbit "is fiercely Irish with an American accent," according to its website.
