Santa Cruz County wants state to regulate youth transport companies after viral video raised concerns

This comes after a video showing two children removed from a Santa Cruz home violently by Assisted Interventions Inc. in October 2022 went viral. On Tuesday, the board of supervisors cited the video in a resolution that stated, "Many community members expressed concern and outrage over the manner in which the forced removal was carried out."

The county says transportation companies in these court-ordered cases currently operate without any oversight or regulations in the State of California.

In the resolution, the county states, "The practice of forcibly removing children from their homes to attend reunification therapy and camps in parental alienation cases can contribute to adverse childhood trauma experiences which have both immediate and life-long physical and mental health consequences."

The county says they have explored regulating these private companies at the local level but believes statewide legislation is needed to address this issue and wants the California State Legislature to pass and adopt laws to provide oversight for these types of companies.
