CompPair HealTech sandwich panels extend self-healing composite capabilities | CompositesWorld

Healable panels demonstrate good repairability, do not disrupt compatible paints and maintain properties equivalent to virgin samples.

Having built a strong know-how in healable prepregs, CompPair Technologies (Renens, Switzerland) has developed HealTech sandwich panels. Helping companies reach sustainability targets, CompPair’s HealTech technology is a composite material able to repair itself to extend the lifetime of composite parts. The extended portfolio now includes semi-finished products including panels. According to CompPair, HealTech panels have demonstrated good repairability on the edges, bumps and sinking surface dents. It contends that the self-healing sandwich panels are an ideal candidate for many applications, namely interior panels. HealTech has also been incorporated and tested on a Gunboat catamaran, and may even help build the framework for reusable space vehicles.

With CompPair’s healing method, a heat trigger is required for a couple of minutes to recover the properties and repair the composite part. During and after this repair, compatible paints are not affected, leaving the part as good as new after healing is complete. Results demonstrate that the healed and virgin samples keep the same properties — technical graph can be sent upon request.

Following previous client work, CompPair says it is now able to provide such technical panels for a wider use in the composites industry.

The HealTech Standard product family from CompPair has been expanded with the addition of CS02, a swift prepreg line.
