This new terminal is 16 times bigger than the previous building, which was constructed over 50 years ago. Built over an area of 6,243 sqm, the new terminal building is equipped to handle 400 passengers during peak hours. Eight check-in counters, three luggage belts, and a refreshments area, among other amenities have been provided. The city-side of the new terminal building has a 150-car parking area.

The new terminal building was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on May 26, but could not become operational immediately due to issues relating to equipment. The new terminal was opened for passenger services 12 days later.

Now, a Kanpur-Delhi flight is also expected to start operating from the terminal from June 16.--- ENDS ---ALSO READ | 16-year-old boy shot dead in UP's Kanpur, suspects identified
