The Year of the Tiger has arrived, and it’s being celebrated at Portland’s Lan Su Chinese Garden with illuminated lantern sculptures, dragon dances and the display of an 18-foot phoenix sculpture.

The celebration will return from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, then again at the same time Thursday through next Sunday. Each celebration is sold out, but the public can still visit the garden from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. Courtyard Light Installation

The garden is closed on Wednesdays. General admission costs $12.95.

Portland’s Lan Su Chinese Garden, which opened in 2000, is one of the city’s most popular treasures. It was built by 65 Suzhou artisans on a full city block in Old Town Chinatown. The artisans moved from China and lived in Portland for over a year to complete the garden.

It took decades of planning to get the garden finally built. In the early 1990s, then-Mayor Vera Katz helped obtain a 99-year lease on a full city block owned by NW Natural in Old Town Chinatown.
