Young practice Ivo Carew Architects is set to submit plans for a church and linked housing scheme off the Old Kent Road in south London Heatpumps
The construction of the 434m2, three-storey ‘ziggurat-inspired’ church in Wagner Street, Lewisham, will be funded through a new residential block next door.
This building will provide four 70m2 two-bedroom flats, each with a dual aspect.
Backed by a local church, the scheme will replace an existing light industrial building, its materials recycled ‘where possible’.
As well as a 130m2 main hall on the ground floor, the church will provide office space and a 70m2 multipurpose secondary hall on the second floor for use its wider outreach programmes.
According to Ivo Carew Architects, which was founded by ex-John Pawson architect Ivo Carew in 2017, the project will use a mix of differently toned coloured bricks, precast concrete and anodised aluminium and feature an air source heat pump and MVHR system.
Subject to approval, work is expected to start on site in summer 2023.
